Install BIMO Toolbar

BIMO Toolbar is distributed as a single universal MSI installer for Autodesk Revit 2021–2027. It is installed for the current Windows user and normally does not require administrator privileges.

Before installation

Close all running versions of Autodesk Revit.
Download the latest BIMO Toolbar installer from the official BIMO website.
Make sure the file came directly from the official download page rather than an email, messenger, or third-party file host.
Do not run the installer if you are unsure about its source.

The current universal installer is normally named:

Run the downloaded MSI file.
If Windows displays an unknown publisher warning or Microsoft Defender SmartScreen blocks the installer, follow the guidance in the section below.
Complete the installation using the installer prompts.
Start Autodesk Revit.
After Revit loads, the BIMO tab should appear on the ribbon.

The installer contains separate files for every supported Revit version. You do not need to select a Revit year during installation.

Unknown publisher and Windows SmartScreen warnings

Known limitation: the current BIMO Toolbar installer is not yet signed with a trusted code-signing certificate. Windows may therefore show Unknown publisher, and Microsoft Defender SmartScreen may display Windows protected your PC.

The warning does not by itself mean that the installer is damaged, but it also does not verify that the file is safe. Continue only after confirming that the installer was downloaded from the official BIMO website.

If Windows SmartScreen appears

Confirm that you are opening the expected BIMO Toolbar MSI file.
Select More info.
Check the file name again.
Select Run anyway.

Button names may vary depending on your Windows version and display language.

If Run anyway is not available, the computer may be controlled by corporate security policies. Do not disable SmartScreen or other security protections globally. Ask your system administrator to review and allow the BIMO installer instead.

If Windows shows Unknown publisher

Proceed only after verifying the source of the file. The warning is caused by the installer not having a trusted digital signature. It is expected to be resolved after a code-signing certificate is introduced, but there is currently no committed resolution date.

Installation location

BIMO Toolbar files are installed in the current Windows user's profile:

BIMO.bundle contains shared files and separate folders for the supported Revit versions.

The installation is per-user:

administrator privileges are normally not required;
BIMO Toolbar is available only to the Windows user who installed it;
another user on the same computer must run the installer from their own Windows account.

Update an existing installation

Close all versions of Revit, then run the newer MSI file. The installer replaces the previous BIMO Toolbar version, so you do not need to delete BIMO.bundle manually.

When upgrading from the legacy installation format, the installer removes outdated BIMO files from:

This cleanup removes legacy Bimo.addin / BIMO.addin manifests and legacy BIMO add-in folders. User settings, license data, branding, and logs are not part of this legacy installation cleanup.

If a newer BIMO Toolbar version is already installed, an older installer may stop with a message that a later version is present. Use the latest installer, or uninstall the newer version first only when a rollback is genuinely required.

Close Autodesk Revit.
Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
Find BIMO Toolbar for Autodesk Revit.
Select Uninstall.

After uninstalling, the application folder BIMO.bundle should be removed. Some user settings and logs may remain because they are stored separately from the installation folder.

If the BIMO tab does not appear

Check the following:

Revit was fully closed during installation and restarted afterwards.
You are using a supported Revit version: 2021–2027.
%APPDATA%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\BIMO.bundle exists.
BIMO was installed from the same Windows account that is running Revit.
Corporate security software or antivirus protection did not remove or quarantine BIMO files.

If BIMO.bundle is missing, run the latest installer again. If installation is blocked by your organization's security policy, provide the installer to your system administrator for review.

Security recommendations

Download the installer only from the official BIMO website.
Do not disable SmartScreen, antivirus, or corporate protection globally to install BIMO.
Do not run a file from an unknown source even if its name resembles the BIMO installer.
If you are uncertain, contact BIMO support before running the file.
