Preview Rays
The "Preview Rays" command in BIMO Add-in for Revit allows users to visualize sunlight rays impacting selected family instances in Autodesk Revit. This feature is useful for understanding how sunlight interacts with specific elements in the model, providing insights for daylight and shading analysis.
Selecting Family Instances
To preview rays, select the elements you want to analyze either before or during the command execution. The command behavior differs based on element selection status:
Pre-selecting Elements :

If elements are pre-selected in the model, simply click the "Preview Rays" command in the BIMO Add-in for Revit ribbon. The ray preview will automatically generate for the selected elements.

Running the Command
After selecting elements and confirming your selection (if required), the command will generate rays that represent sunlight paths for each selected element. This visualization helps you understand sunlight exposure patterns in real time.
Reviewing Ray Visualization
The generated rays will be displayed in the 3D view, showing the paths sunlight takes to interact with each selected element. Use this preview to assess daylight penetration, shading patterns, and potential areas of sunlight blockage within your design.
Adjusting Parameters
To fine-tune the ray preview, adjust sunlight parameters in BIMO Add-in for Revit Settings (e.g., latitude, sun hours, and date) before running "Preview Rays." This ensures that the rays reflect realistic sun angles and conditions based on the project's location and timing.
